Melanotan 2 (MT-2) is a synthetic cyclic analog of alpha-Melanocyte Stimulating Hormone (α-MSH), derived from the linear Melanotan 1 sequence through cyclisation and truncation to a heptapeptide. The cyclisation via lactam bridge between Asp and Lys residues provides conformational rigidity and enhanced receptor binding. MT-2 acts as a non-selective melanocortin receptor agonist (MC1R, MC3R, MC4R, MC5R) and has been extensively studied since its development at the University of Arizona.
